Why Build a New School?

Current School
New School
Will revert to the Congregation for future expansion plans Will be located near the current site on land leased to CWA by the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis
Small classrooms Larger classrooms that will better facilitate a more comprehensive individualized program
No handicap accessibility Will be able to accommodate individuals in wheelchairs and those with special physical needs
Outdated HVAC systems Fully air conditioned and heated for comfort and safety
Outdated technology and wiring Improved access for electrical equipment and phones, computers, wireless Internet access and modern equipment used by faculty and students
Limited space for vocational training Space added that will enhance vocational, job training, and independent living skills programs.
Inadequate room for student performances Multipurpose room that would allow CWA students to continue offering the Holiday Program and spring play performances. (These events allow students to participate in traditional school experiences that they would not have access to in a regular education setting.)
No indoor physical education facility New physical education facility that will enable students to learn life-time fitness skills, participate in team sports and enhance motor and social skills.
Lack of privacy and inadequate washrooms Age-appropriate child-size bathrooms and washing facilities close to classrooms
Parking lot basketball hoops and small grassy play areas used by children now Students will have outdoor recreational space for individual and team sports
Limited space for meetings Will offer meeting rooms for teachers, parents, youth groups and community organizations that work with CWA.
No room for expansion to meet the demand for more students Allows CWA to educate an additional 20 students per year, providing a comprehensive individualized program for special education students who have more intensive educational, behavioral and emotional needs.
Inadequate security system Enhanced security with cameras and internal sound system
