Support Clare Woods Academy and spend “A Night With Temple Grandin”
Proceeds from this event go to support Clare Woods Academy to grow and improve our programs for the children and adults we serve. Approximately 50% of the families we serve are considered at risk as a low income family. We include many programs and resources to support them. As a part of Clare Woods Academy’s 50th Anniversary Celebration we are pleased to have Temple Grandin as our Keynote Speaker. The Night With Temple Grandin is cosponsored by Wheaton College’s new Faith and Disability Initiative and will be held at Wheaton College’s Edman Chapel on Monday November 18, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The following day -Tuesday November 19, 2019- Ms. Grandin will be facilitating a Master Class for educators and practitioners. The class will meets from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Clare Woods Academy (CEUs available).
Dr. Grandin is a past member of the board of directors of the Autism Society of America.
She lectures to parents and teachers throughout the U.S. on her experiences with autism.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Temple’s achievements are remarkable because she was an autistic child. At age two she had no speech and all the signs of severe autism. Many hours of speech therapy, and intensive teaching enabled Temple to learn speech. As a teenager, life was hard with constant teasing. Mentoring by her high school science teacher and her aunt on her ranch in Arizona motivated Temple to study and pursue a career as a scientist and livestock equipment designer.
Temple Grandin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and she has been a pioneer in improving the handling and welfare of farm animals. FULL BIO
